How To Teach Toddlers About Jesus: My Favorite Resources

Resources to Teach Toddlers How to Focus on Jesus

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”Proverbs 22:6

Raising children to know and love Jesus is a sacred calling and an incredible privilege. The Bible reminds us time and again that our children are gifts from God:

“Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward.”Psalm 127:3

It’s not just about teaching them Bible stories or having them memorize verses. It’s about helping them experience the love of Jesus, laying a foundation of faith that will guide them throughout their lives.

As parents, we are called to create an environment where our children can grow in their faith:

“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”Ephesians 6:4

“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace; they will bring you the delights you desire.”Proverbs 29:17

Studies confirm what the Bible has said all along: nurturing faith in childhood has a lasting impact. According to Barna Group research, nearly two-thirds of Christians made their commitment to Christ before age 18, with most making the decision between ages 4 and 14. This critical “window of faith” underscores the importance of intentionally introducing our toddlers to Jesus.

But let’s be honest—teaching toddlers about Jesus isn’t always easy. Between their short attention spans and unpredictable moods, it can be hard to know if they’re absorbing anything. But every once in a while, you’ll catch glimpses that remind you it’s working: hearing them sing a Bible song, watching them pray with childlike faith, or listening to their sweet requests to Jesus.

Here are some of my favorite resources to help toddlers focus on Jesus. These tools have made a big difference in our family, and I hope they bless your family too.

1. ABCJJesusLovesMe.com Toddler Homeschool Curriculum

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.”Proverbs 22:6

This curriculum is designed for toddlers starting at age 2 and includes Bible memory cards, songs, and activities. It’s perfect for busy parents because it only takes 15–20 minutes a day. Alongside teaching about Jesus, the curriculum incorporates early learning skills like colors, shapes, and motor development. We’ve used this since my son Grant turned 2, and it’s been a wonderful way to keep Jesus at the center of our day.

2. Friends with God Bible

“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”Psalm 103:13

We’ve been using the Friends with God Bible since Grant was just 6 months old. The stories are written in the first person, told by characters like Noah, David, and Ruth, helping kids connect personally to the Bible. The illustrations are stunning, and the discussion questions at the end of each story spark great conversations. We often read it during bath time or breakfast, and it’s become a staple in our home.

3. Veggie Tales Music

“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!”Psalm 150:6

Who doesn’t love Veggie Tales? These Bible songs, available on iTunes, are a favorite in our car rides. The cheerful voices and catchy tunes help bring Bible stories to life, and I often catch Grant singing along.

4. Superbook

“Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'”Matthew 19:14

We recently discovered Superbook on Amazon Prime, and it’s completely mom-approved! This animated series brings Bible stories to life in a way that’s engaging for toddlers. There are three seasons available to stream for free, and it’s such a fun way for little ones to experience God’s Word visually.

Why This Matters

I don’t care if my children grow up to choose a specific career path, go to college, or follow in my footsteps. What I care about—what I pray about every day—is that they know and love the Lord with all their hearts:

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.”Proverbs 9:10

No matter where life takes them, I trust that God will guide and protect them if they remain rooted in Him. My job, as a parent, is to lay that foundation of faith and teach them to rely on Jesus.

“God created the family. His design was for a man and a woman to marry for life and raise children to know and honor Him.”Mark 10:9

What Are You Using?

These are just a few of the tools that have been impactful for us, but I’m always on the lookout for new resources to help teach my kids about Jesus. What are you using at home to nurture your toddlers’ faith?
